How did you know that she had visited? Course its a great website! Although it could be alot better.
Hi -
I was watching some stuff on TV the other day about the 100th anniversary of scouting and suddenly got the impulse to google ‘1st Fareham’ to see if my old scout troop had a website. Nice one!
I was a 1st Fareham cub from 1981-83, Scout from 1983-88 and Venture Scout from 1988-90. Eagles and Bulldogs patrols existed back then (I was in the now-defunct Panthers patrol and later in Woodpeckers - not surprising that’s gone as it was a rubbish name). I now live in the Midlands, but excellent to know that the troop’s still going strong.
Cheers,
Ian Jones
Hi Ian. You’ll be pleased to know that the Group is actually going a lot stronger than the website is at the moment, I am afriad that I have been neglecting this site of late - I’ve been too busy running the Troop! We have a good strong membership in all three sections, and have just started refurbishing the hut, now that we have a reasonable amount of dosh in the bank thanks to some good fundraising over the past few years.
I may be picking on you to contribute a few memories in the near future - I want to start a page with some anecdotal history of the Group, getting some members past and present to put some memories of their time in 1st down in writing, with hopefully some pictures as well.
It’s wierd that you mention the Patrols existing as you do. Seven years ago, when I first started here, there were not enough Scouts to have Patrols, and when we built up the numbers enough to start them back again, we let the Scouts pick the names. The original choices were Bulldogs, Eagles, CObras and Panthers. Funny huh? Cobras eventually changed their name to Falcons, and Panthers became Wolves about two years ago.
Good to hear from you!
