I would have posted this sooner, and put some photos of Summer Camp up by now, but my PC is on the fritz at the mo.

I will, therefore, have to limit myself to displaying the winners of the various competitions that took place throughout the year or on camp.

(I should add that the standard gets better every year, and this years was no exception - this applies to all Patrols)

(These last two take into account the inspection scores, other discretionary points throughout the year, but is generally won or lost on Summer Camp.)

These last two awards are very subjective, meaning that it is decided by the Leaders’ opinions more than firm scores (although they do play a part). I discuss this matter with each leader in turn, and make a note of the names mentioned. As it happens, many more names got mentioned than I had prizes to give out, so I looked for the names that were mentioned most often.

Those that did not win a prize should not be downhearted. I was very pleased by most of you this year. Most of you worked very hard throughout the week, and all of you kept in good spirits, even when the weather was against us.

That said, there are always areas to improve, and for my part, Summer Camp was far from perfect. Not through any fault of yours, but rather of my own programming. I have this vision of a ‘great’ Summer Camp, but have yet to achieve it.

To this end, we will have a thorough debrief of Summer Camp 06 on the first evening back next term, and you will be having a Patrol Leadership Forum, followed by a Troop Leadership Forum the following Monday. There are a few forced personnel changes in the Leader Team for Summer Camp next year, so we will be taking this opportunity to evaluate and review every aspect of camp - asking ourselves for each activity “why is it on the programme, should it be there next year, or should we try something else?” Stuff like that.

I will try to come up with a list of questions for you to discuss in your Patrols first night back, but until then, get your thinking caps on, and make some mental notes.

Remember, you guys have a say in how this Troop functions - use that voice.

   So did I, based on our (Tiffy and mine) checkpoint.

   Well, that’s slightly unfair - I though you did crap, since you basically cupped your head in your hands and prayed for it to be over - Chip and Andy seemed to genuinely want to do well at the base.

   Most new guys have trouble on the dark - some disguise it better than others.

   They just need time and encouragement to get used to it…
